Hi, I’m Jordan gaines.

Bred in Milwaukee and based in Harlem, I am an award-winning advocate, educator, writer, consultant, and clinician whose work harnesses the power of community connection, emotional intimacy, and generational wellness practices to bring clients back home to themselves. I believe that cultivating intimacy with self and others is a powerful tool for personal and collective true liberation.

My work centers the experiences of queer and gender-expansive Black folks and femmes. In addition to my work as a clinician, I have spent the better part of the last decade supporting survivors of gender- and power-based violence across community, residential, and academic settings, including Columbia University and Cornell Tech. I have assisted survivors of sexual assault, intimate partner violence, and human trafficking in the pursuit of making freedom real.

As a consultant, I support agencies in cultivating organizational cultures that are anti-oppressive, trauma-informed, sex-positive, and queer-affirming for both clients and staff. As a Black, queer woman, I honor the power and necessity of engaging with villages and communities of care.

I hold a B.A. in Afro-American Studies, with a focus on Black Women’s Studies, from the University of Wisconsin–Madison and an M.A. in Marriage and Family Therapy from Syracuse University.
